Lodi Corazza is a historical winery located in Zola Predosa, in the outskirts fo Bologna, at the foothills of the Bolognese hills. The first document testifying to the production and sale of wine by the Lodi family dates back to 1877.

The winery has been run by Cesare and his sister Silvia since 1997.

"The passage of time has undoubtedly modified these territories, but the vineyards have remained where they were, intact. It was enough for us to give new life to what was already there, to regenerate the old vineyards: mum's Pignoletto, Iaio's Barbera, dad's Merlot, Napoleon's Sauvignon or Grandfather's Albana, because everywhere there is a story about our estate that needs to be told, a soul that talks..."

Our Pignoletto Zigant is a wine of great elegance and body, which due to its structure and its typicality reminded us of the Nettuno of Piazza Maggiore, the “zigant”(giant in Bolognese dialect), as the Bolognese call it, capable of aging over time without losing his personality."

The grapes are harvested in three phases, the last 5% or so is harvested with a little botrytis, manually harvested into boxes then transferred to a concrete tank to ferment and remain "sur lies" for 6 months with periodic batonnage. The yield per hectare is approximately 70 quintals.

A precious work that allows Zigant to have both muscles, freshness and a remarkable complexity: it releases aromas of hawthorn, broom, star anise, many aromatic herbs, citrus influences that veer more towards pineapple than orange, then lime, winter melon and much more.

On the palate it is enveloping, full, savoury, with a stimulating fruit sweetness, the freshness balances perfectly with the texture articulated by the persistent scents. A tall, deep, rich sip you never get tired of. A gastronomic wine, the perfect companion of traditional tortellini in broth.

At "la Fastuchera" we had the chance to taste six different vintages of this masterpiece from the hills of Bologna:

  • Zigant 2021: An early spring day by the sea. Memories of broom flower and saltiness. In a world of Pignoletto, a Chablis.

  • Zigant 2019: Ancient gold explosion, oysters and anemones in your mouth. A fresh wine tasting on the top of a mountain.

  • Zigant 2018: The evening surf, lazy and impetuous at sunset. The tide of a warm late summer.

  • Zigant 2017: A dip in a mountain stream, crystal clear and thirst-quenching water. A glass to drink without stopping, notes of flint and petrol. In a world of Pignoletto, a Mosel Riesling.

  • Zigant 2016: Toasted and tropical, a Sicilian cassata on the hills of Bologna.

  • Zigant 2015: Oxidative notes that can't hide the freshness that is still alive. Almonds, walnuts, candied fruit. A brackish lagoon, the Cervia salt pans. In a world of Pignoletto, a sous voile from Jura.

Cesare himself guided us through the different glasses, explaining what the weather had been like and what issues were faced to produce each vintage. Every bottle recalled the year, clearly depicted by nature and winemaker.
