Meet the producer: Otto Logiurato

A beautiful story of a life-switching decision.

The Otto Logiurato company is a family-run agricultural business, run by the Logiurato family based in Monteveglio.

The company extends over 10.5 ha and is located in one of the most panoramic points of Valsamoggia: Montebudello. The activity is focused on viticulture and wine production. The wines are organic certified and all the fermentations are spontaneous.

Stefano, founder and owner of his family winery arrived from Milan, where he worked as a manager in the IT sector. Married to a German girl, after the birth of their first son they decided to let him grow in a better environment, so eventually moved to Monteveglio, on the Bolognese hills.

Stefano and his family moved here in 2011 and the first harvest took place in 2013.

The winery is currently in the activation phase, some work is still needed to be able to start wine production in its own facility. Currently, the winemaking phases are carried out at the Fedrizzi winery.

Stefano represents a different type of producer, not native to the place, without any tradition or experience of country life, and therefore definitely interesting. As interesting are his wines, straight and salty like the soil from which they are born. The marked minerality of the wines, in fact, derives from the sandy matrix soils rich in marine fossils.

During the visit, I had the chance to taste some of the wine produced by Stefano:

  • Neve Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto Superiore DOCG 2022: A pignoletto who dreams of being by the sea, with a plate of mussels and spaghetti with clams. Excellent interpretation of this typology, great freshness and drinkability, a marine Pignoletto.

  • Giunco delle Creste Barbera DOC 2021: A barbera with two faces: soft and enveloping on the nose with evident notes of vanilla, still wild and salty in the mouth. A wine that still needs a few years to give its best.

  • Noah Rosso Bologna DOC 2021: Not bottled yet, tasting from the barrel. Cabernet Sauvignon + Barbera. A lovely interpretation of Rosso Bologna, with a wine that finds the courage to leave the traditional Bordeaux blend and wins the challenge.

The wine estate is a beautiful B&B open to guests, for more info and reservations:
