Meet the producer: Azienda agricola l'Upupa

If you are a craft wine lover, this is your winery.

If you are a fan of "garage" wines, you really can't miss this one.

If you are a natural wines radical, you ought to be there.

Upupa is a small farm that was born in 2018 in the hamlet of Monte San Pietro (BO) by the passion for the land and its products.

All the wines are produced according to the principles of organic farming, exclusively from grapes grown in the vineyards in the Colli Bolognesi area. The winery cultivates around 2 hectares, with a rough production of 5.000 bottles.

Alberto, who has a master degree in engineering, but decided to chase his dreams, never stops experimenting: a new vineyard has just been planted with Johanniter, a PIWI resistant white variety, and the la Mischia collaboration project with Inula winery has recently seen the light.

But this is not all: due to his past activity as homebrewer, many new fermentations are going to start in Alberto's garage winery.

Since its conception, the farm has become part of the Campi Aperti (open fields) association, a group that supports organic farming and the right of communities to decide about the production of their own food, nutrition and management of the territories.

  • Sparguglio 2021: A sparkling bottle re-fermented wine obtained from hand-picked Pignoletto (Grechetto Gentile) early harvested grapes. Vinification: soft pressing, spontaneous fermentation at controlled temperature (15 ° C) in stainless steel tanks. Ageing: in stainless steel tanks in batonnage on the lees until bottling. Subsequently refermentation and refinement in the bottle. Pale lemon green, with gentle bubbles and a sharp acidity, a wine made to be drunk quickly, carefree and thirst-quenching.

  • Ramingo 2021: Always from Pignoletto grapes, here we can taste the real potential of the king grape of the Bolognese Hills, in this the still version. Straightly varietal, with white flowers and green apple aromas, a wine that doesn't really smell like supermarket shelf. Perfectly balanced, with elegant citrus fruit flavors, mineral with lively acidity and typical finish with hints of bitter almond.

  • Cinabro 2020: A must try for every Barbera grape fan. Fruity and acidic, a new interpretation of the most traditional black grape of the Area.
