Meet the producer: Anonima Agricola Viticoltori Valsamoggia

It's always a pleasure for me to visit Federico's craft winery. He's welcoming and kind, and I love his wines.

He started his journey into winemaking after his graduation in oenology at Università di Bologna, which led him to work in France in the Loire Valley.

When he came back to Italy he collaborated with several local wineries, until the day he was able to realize his dream: starting his own winery with a vineyard.

So, just a few years ago, Anonima Agricola Viticoltori Valsamoggia (A.A.V.V.) was founded in Valsamoggia, on the hillside of Bologna.

Now, A.A.V.V. grows around 4 hectares of vineyards made up, almost entirely, of native vines.

The vineyards are organically grown, and the grapes transformed in their own cellar require minimal oenological intervention.

A.A.V.V. constitutes the embryo of a broader and more ambitious project: to give space to all the small businesses which, due to their limited size and fragmentation, do not have the possibility of fully realizing their projects in the wine sector.

The cellar and the experience of Federico are at the service of those who wish to enhance their product without distorting it or making compromises.

It is not a matter of pursuing a "social winery" model, rather of guaranteeing the identity of all winemakers who wish to express their creativity in the freest way possible.

In a wine-growing area, as intimate as that of the Colli Bolognesi, the presence of different approaches and interpretations of the terroir constitutes a wealth that should not be wasted. Only the guarantee of freedom offered to winemakers will allow them to grow together with our territory.

During the visit, Federico offered tasty appetizers such as salame, salame rosa and focaccia, perfect companions of the wines he poured.

  • Rosso Bologna 2020: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot. A very particular case of grapes harvested in the same period, which are crushed and fermented together. This is possible because the vineyard of Merlot lies in a very cool site, while the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown in a warmer plot. This allows the two varieties to ripen together. The rare winemaking process allows a perfect integration, in a fresh, fruity and minty wine. To enjoy in summer, chilled, around a happy barbecue with friends.

  • Barbera 2020: 100% Barbera. Balsamic with elegant ripe fruit and soft spices, earth and humus. You can't get tired of this wine.
